What Is The Best Type Of Dermal Filler?

Dermal fillers are injected to enhance volume and fill deep wrinkles. All USA FDA-approved dermal fillers have the same parent chemical, hyaluronic acid. However the size of particles and the way the fillers are cross-linked differ. These differences give the fillers different properties. Hyaluronic Acid fillers are similar but each filler has a different characteristic that works best for different reasons and in different places of the face. A filler used for the cheeks might not work well for the lips depending on the desired results.

There are two major families of filler: Juvederm fillers and Restylane fillers.

The Juvederm fillers include Juvederm, Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Volbella, Vollure and Voluma.

The Restylane fillers include Restylane, Defyne, Kysse, Lyft, Refyne, and Silk.

So what is the best type of dermal filler?

When evaluating the appropriate type of injection, our healthcare providers at Lotus Wellness and Medspa carefully consider both the location and depth of filler placement. They then align these criteria with a filler possessing the suitable G-prime.

G-prime serves as a measurement for stiffness and elasticity. A filler with a low G-prime exhibits a soft and pliable texture, making it ideal for superficial injections just beneath the skin. This type of filler is particularly well-suited for delicate areas like the lips or fine wrinkles around the mouth.

Conversely, a filler with a high G-prime is characterized by its stiffness and increased lifting capacity. These fillers are administered at a deeper level, either directly on bone or just in front of it. A high G-prime filler is exceptionally effective for enhancing bone structure and providing volume in areas such as the cheeks.

It is important to be evaluated by an experienced injector that has a strong understanding of anatomy, filler properties, and the risks associated with fillers. At Lotus Wellness and Medspa, we take a customized approach- we don’t believe in “one-size-fits-all” when it comes to injectables.
